'Family Guy tourism' could boost profile of Rhode Island

The state of Rhode Island in the New England region of the United States could soon experience a profile boost resulting from a surprising trend - Family Guy tourism.

A new tour sponsored by the local tourist board highlights locations from the popular comedy series, which follows lovable but idiotic dad Peter Griffin and his dysfunctional family.

The show is set in a fictional town called Quahog but takes inspiration from real locations in Rhode Island.

A Family Guy-themed tour was devised by Christopher Martin, a fan of the show who catalogued its associations with the state, reports the Daily Mail.

'Pretty much any time you see something local on Family Guy, it's fun,' said Mr Martin.

Visitors can head to locations such as the Drunken Clam bar, which Peter often visits with his friends, and a Providence skyscraper the character once jumped off in the belief he was invincible.

People interested in visiting Rhode Island can learn more about the area's Family Guy connections and other attractions on Mr Martin's Quahog.org website.
