New campaign to promote art in Philadelphia

New campaign to promote art in Philadelphia
21 May 2012

Visual arts exhibitions and events could prove more popular among travellers staying in hotels in Philadelphia over the coming years as a result of a new campaign.

In time for the opening of the Barnes Foundation's campus on the city's Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the council, the local tourist board and 14 other civic and cultural partners have teamed up to launch the With Art Philadelphia initiative.

The two-year, $2m (£1.27) project intends to use the opening as a way of creating more interest in the destination and encouraging travellers to visit from around the world.

A dedicated With Art page has been launched on visitphilly.com allowing prospective tourists to design their own cultural itineraries and activities.

Meryl Levitz, president and chief executive of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, said there has never been a better time to explore and appreciate art in the city.

'Visitors have the opportunity to curate their own individual art experiences, and there are so many experiences to be had both inside museums and beyond their walls,' she added.

Institutions and attractions worth visiting in the destination include the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rodin Museum.
