Singapore cruise terminal ready to start operations
24 May 2012

Singapore's travel industry has received a boost with the news that the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) is now complete and ready to commence operations.

Government minister Mr S Iswaran announced the official name of the terminal after a tour of the 28,000 sq m site.

He said the new development will be a key piece of infrastructure within Singapore's 'tourism landscape' and also noted that cruise passenger arrivals have been rising at an annual rate of about 3.6% over the last ten years.

Approximately 1m sea voyagers visited the south-east Asian city-state in 2011.

'With MBCCS, more cruise ships will be able to homeport and call on Singapore and Asia,' said Mr Iswaran.

'We look forward to welcoming more and bigger cruise ships.'

The centre can handle some 6,800 people at any one time and provides a twofold increase in the destination's berth capacity.

Celebrity Cruises' ship Millennium will homeport in Singapore for the first time later this year.
