Leeds Bradford seeing more passengers on UK flights

Leeds Bradford Airport is seeing higher demand for flights to destinations across the UK this year.

The base said the trend can be partly attributed to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, with people following the monarch to cities around Britain to take part in festivities marking the 60th anniversary of her coronation.

Her Majesty will be heading to Scotland between 2 and 6 July before visiting Leeds itself on 18 and 19 July.

Travellers can also head north of the border by catching flights to Glasgow from Leeds Bradford with Flybe.

Other British and Irish destinations accessible from the airport include Southampton, Belfast and Dublin.

Tony Hallwood, commercial director at the base, said: 'Thanks to [the] wide range of domestic destinations from Yorkshire's gateway airport, passengers will be able to celebrate the events in style or visit friends and family across the UK for a short break.'

Monarch Airlines recently announced that it will be launching new scheduled flights to Munich in Germany and Grenoble in France from Leeds Bradford in December 2012.
