Edinburgh exhibit celebrates Queen's Diamond Jubilee
28 May 2012
People staying in hotels in Edinburgh this year can pay a visit to Camera Obscura and World of Illusions to see a new exhibit celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The highly sought after Rubin's Vase, which was unveiled last week, casts a silhouette containing the hidden profiles of both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
It is mounted on a moving turntable, giving the effect of the faces swapping places and talking to each other.
Rubin's Vase is a visual phenomenon named after Edgar Rubin, a Danish psychologist who discovered that the eye is unable to process two images at once but is capable of shifting between the body of the vase and the appearance of its shadow.
Andrew Johnson, director and manager of Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, said the attraction's newest exhibit is extremely rare.
'We thought it was the perfect way to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and give our visitors a chance to see the Queen and Price Philip in a whole new light,' he added.
