British Airways (BA) has announced that it will increase frequency on two routes from London Gatwick to popular ski holiday destinations in Austria and Italy this winter.

From 18 December, the airline will offer five weekly flights to Salzburg and ten weekly connections to Turin.

Two additional return journeys to the Austrian city will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays, while an extra return service to the Italian destination will be available on Sundays.

BA highlighted some of the attractions on offer alongside the ski resorts in the regions, such as Turin's Baroque palaces, art museums and Piazza Castello square, and sites in Salzburg associated with The Sound of Music and Mozart.

Announcing the schedule changes, Sophie McKinstrie, a spokesperson for the airline at Gatwick, said: 'These routes are already very popular with winter travellers and skiers in particular, so we have taken the opportunity to boost our winter schedule with the extra flights.'

Other Austrian and Italian destinations served by BA include Vienna, Florence and Rome.
