Gastronomes planning a trip to Australia later this year might want to book hotels in Sydney in October to check out a festival that will feature appearances by some of the world's top culinary experts.

The annual Crave Sydney International Food Festival will welcome two of the top five chefs from the recent World's 50 Best Restaurants list, alongside many more local and international figures.

Due to run from 1 to 31 October, the programme will feature more than 500 events in Sydney and regional New South Wales (NSW), one of the highlights of which will be Barbecue Madness on 6 October.

The World Chef Showcase will bring some of the biggest names in international cuisine to Sydney on 6 and 7 October, while Asian food markets will open in Hyde Park for five days from 8 to 12 October and again a week later.

Introducing the event, NSW minister for tourism and major events George Souris said: 'Our chefs and produce are renowned the world over and we welcome international visitors to experience our world-class dining scene at its source and taste some of the more than 500 events on offer across Sydney.'
