SAS to launch Birmingham to Stockholm flights
8 Jun 2012
SAS Scandinavian Airlines will this year provide a new travel option for Brits interested in visiting Sweden with the launch of flights to Stockholm from Birmingham Airport.
The carrier will launch a direct service to the Swedish capital in October, offering six weekly connections operating every day except Saturdays.
Hans Dyhrfort, SAS' regional manager for the UK and Ireland, said England's West Midlands region is an important growth area for the airline, with 8m people living within 60 minutes of Birmingham Airport.
'We now serve Stockholm directly from London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh (seasonal service) and now Birmingham, closing up the geographic gap that we had in the area,' he added.
Martyn Lloyd, air services development director at the West Midlands base, said both business and leisure travellers in the region have shown demand for a direct route to the Scandinavian destination.
Other major carriers based at Birmingham Airport include Flybe, Delta, Emirates and Lufthansa.
