Cape Verde tourism 'has grown during recession'
12 Jun 2012

Tourism in the Atlantic island nation of Cape Verde has continued to grow despite the challenges posed by the global economic crisis, according to an expert on the destination.

Adrian Lillywhite, managing director of Cape Verde Property, said the archipelago's success has been supported by outside investment from 'world class tourism brands' and an increasing range of flights from Europe.

'Cape Verde is one of the few areas in the world where tourism has actually gone up during the recession,' he commented.

'Sal and Boa Vista islands in particular have been very successful.'

Mr Lillywhite commented on some of the locations and experiences on offer on the island of Sal, where holidaymakers can try watersports and visit bars and restaurants in the southern town of Santa Maria.

The Cape Verde islands are located about 570km off the coast of western Africa, near Mauritania and Senegal.

Flights to destinations such as Sal and Praia are available with TAP Portugal.
