Responsible tourism 'gaining ground'

Responsible tourism is 'gaining ground' and developing into an important part of the wider industry, according to trade event World Travel Market (WTM).
A number of factors have contributed to the success of WTM World Responsible Tourism Day, including new initiatives, greater focus and recognition that this particular sector should top the industry agenda.
The one-day event will return to ExCeL London on 7 November 2012, although there will also be related activities on 6 and 8 November.
Themes explored this year will include wildlife and conservation; catering for people with disabilities; tourism and child protection; and responsible volunteering.
WTM chairman Fiona Jeffery said: 'We were always in this for the long haul and I'm delighted that responsible tourism is gradually gaining ground within every quarter of the industry.'
Spotlight, World Responsible Tourism Day's own annual colour magazine, is also expanding with the launch of a monthly online issue featuring pictures, videos and other content.
