27 Jun 2012
Travellers staying in hotels in Sydney over the coming months can pay a visit to the Australian Museum to see a new exhibit exploring some of the world's eeriest underwater environments.
Deep Oceans was unveiled on 16 June and will remain open to the public until 14 October 2012.
It showcases some of the most bizarre and fascinating creatures found in the sea, including a fish discovered more than 1,000 metres below the surface of the Tasman Sea known as Mr Blobby and ocean sponges that have cancer-fighting properties.
Visitors can also see a five-metre model of a giant squid, experience the water pressure of extreme ocean depths and learn about the technology being used to map out the 25m seamounts hidden beneath the waves.
The Australian Museum is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney and is home to other displays and exhibits covering topics such as dinosaurs and indigenous Australians.
