Emirates has launched its latest service - a cable car over the Thames river in London.

Members of the public can now embark on a 'flight' 90 metres above the water, taking in views of famous landmarks and areas such as Canary Wharf, Greenwich, the Olympic Park and the City.

Pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists can board one of the 34 cabins operating on the UK's first urban cable car every 30 minutes from two new terminals - Emirates Greenwich Peninsula and Emirates Royal Docks.

The journey along the 1.1km line takes up to ten minutes.

Emirates president Tim Clark, who was joined at an event marking the launch of the new attraction by figures including London mayor Boris Johnson, said it was 'exhilarating' to see the first service get underway.

'It reflects Emirates' philosophy of connecting people through exciting, innovative and shared experiences, and will provide residents, commuters and visitors alike with a unique perspective of London,' he added.

The airline provides eight daily flights to Dubai from London and also operates out of Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow airports.
