Air New Zealand strikes partnership with Hobbit movies
13 Jul 2012

Air New Zealand has announced that it will be 'bringing the world to Middle-earth' after reaching a partnership with New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer relating to the forthcoming movies The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

The two-year agreement will see passengers from the UK and North America catching flights to New Zealand on two specially designed Boeing 777 planes.

There will also be a themed edition of the inflight safety video and various other promotions and special experiences.

Wellington is set to welcome visitors from all over the world when it hosts the premiere of the first Hobbit movie on 28 November 2012.

Air New Zealand's general manager for marketing and communications, Mike Tod, said New Zealand is well known as the home of Middle-earth and that the airline is looking forward to bringing 'the magic to life' for travellers.

He added: 'This partnership follows on naturally from the success of Air New Zealand's relationship with the Lord of the Rings trilogy in raising New Zealand's profile as an international travel destination.'
