Record visitors for Croatia

Record visitors for Croatia
13 Jul 2012

Croatia's national tourist board has announced that the country welcomed a record number of visitors during the first six months of the year.

The UK made a particularly strong contribution to the growth, with British arrivals up 25% compared to the same period in 2011.

Some new route launches facilitated the increase in visitor numbers from Britain, including the introduction of British Airways flights to Zagreb from London Heathrow.

Growth is set to continue in the coming months, the national tourist board predicted.

It was also revealed that Croatia's beaches are among the cleanest in Europe, according to the European Commission and Environmental Agency.

With 90% of its beaches judged to be of an excellent standard, the country was ranked second only to Cyprus in terms of the quality and cleanliness of its waters.

Travellers can visit some of the most popular Croatian seafront hotspots in destinations such as Dubrovnik and the island of Hvar.
