United announces Dreamliner plans
13 Jul 2012
United Airlines, the North American launch customer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has revealed how it plans to induct the aircraft into its fleet.
Due to be delivered to the carrier in late September, the plane will feature 36 seats in the BusinessFirst cabin, 72 seats in premium economy and space for 111 passengers in economy.
United said the 787 will provide a number of benefits for travellers, including improved lighting schemes, bigger windows, larger overhead bins and an inflight entertainment system with a new design and more search options.
The liner will be distinguished within the airline's fleet by a customised livery featuring a gold line running along the fuselage from nose to tail.
New non-stop destinations and routes such as the recently announced Denver to Tokyo service will be added to the United network following the induction of the Dreamliner, which has a longer range and uses less fuel than aircraft of a similar size.
United has been the launch customer for more than a dozen Boeing planes, including the 767 and 777.
