Travellers advised to use Heathrow Express during Olympics
26 Jul 2012

Travellers who will be passing through London Heathrow during the Olympic Games have been advised to use the Heathrow Express train service.

The airport noted that the 2012 Olympics represents the biggest peacetime transport challenge for the UK, with an extra 3m journeys set to be taken every day.

Heathrow Express will offer additional capacity during the Games and will let passengers bypass congestion, the airport advised.

Fewer business passengers are expected to use the train link while the Olympics is taking place, while more traffic is anticipated on roads between Heathrow and central London.

Nick Cole, head of London 2012 planning at the airport, said: 'Whilst London's transport network will feel the strain of increased traffic, passengers using Heathrow Express can expect swift and stress-free transfers between the airport and the city.'

The rail service operates every 15 minutes from Paddington station and has transported more than 60m people since its launch in 1998.
