American Airlines reveals fleet improvement plans
27 Jul 2012

American Airlines is set to introduce a number of new features and passenger amenities onboard more than 200 narrow-body aircraft from Airbus and Boeing.

The company plans to be the only carrier offering three-class service and fully lie-flat first and business class seats on transcontinental flights.

All new narrow-body planes in the fleet will provide extra seating in the main cabin and wireless internet access throughout the aircraft, as well as inflight entertainment and power outlets at every seat.

On American Airlines' new Airbus A321 transcontinental liners, improvements will include seat-to-seat chat technology, live text news, weather updates, 3D moving maps and connecting gate information provided through the entertainment system.

Chief commercial officer Virasb Vahidi said the introduction of these new aircraft will help the company provide 'an industry-leading premium experience on transcontinental routes, while significantly reducing costs through improved fuel efficiency'.

The airline's purchase of more than 200 narrow-body planes from Airbus and Boeing is part of a previously announced order for 460 new additions to its fleet.
