Brooklyn pizza tour marks eighth anniversary
31 Jul 2012
Travellers hoping to get under the skin of New York during a trip to the city this year can book places on a tour that recently celebrated its eighth anniversary.
A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours - whose slogan is 'Manhattan? FUHGETTABOUDIT!' - takes guests on trips showcasing Brooklyn's best-loved foods, neighbourhoods, landmarks and movie locations.
Highlights include the award-winning Neapolitan-style pizza served at Grimaldi's, Coney Island and famous sites from films like The French Connection, Annie Hall, Saturday Night Fever and Goodfellas.
Movie clips and audiovisual guides are shown on the tour bus's overhead monitors.
The tour was launched by Brooklyn native Tony Muia, who wanted to give visitors an easy way to experience the borough from a local perspective.
'When I started doing tours eight years ago, nobody was bothering to pick people up in Manhattan and bring them to Brooklyn,' said Mr Muia.
'So I took it upon myself to go get them and become Brooklyn's official ambassador.'
More than 50,000 people have now taken the tour, which has featured on the Today Show, the Travel Channel and the Food Network.
