New LAX terminal 'to improve Air New Zealand passenger experience'
1 Aug 2012
Air New Zealand has told its passengers they can expect an improved experience when the carrier moves to a new home at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in early 2014
After nearly 20 years at the hub's second terminal, the airline is set to transfer to the Tom Bradley international facility, which is currently undergoing a $1.7bn (£1.1bn) revamp.
Passengers will have access to better facilities when departing or arriving in Los Angeles and also while in transit, including a more efficient customs processing facility and 180,000 sq ft of dining and retail amenities.
Due to take place in phases over the next two years, the redevelopment of the Tom Bradley terminal will result in improvements including 18 additional gates.
Roger Poulton, Air New Zealand's general manager for the Americas, said: 'The new terminal facilities have been designed to accommodate 30% more passengers an hour, so our customers can look forward to faster boarding and disembarking [and] more efficient customs and immigration processing.'
In a first for the airline, Air New Zealand has been appointed to design and operate a Star Alliance lounge in the terminal that will be used by the likes of Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa.
