Airport shopping is proving increasingly popular among air travellers heading to the United Arab Emirates, with Abu Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF) announcing total sales revenues of AED380.2m (£66.6m) for the first half of 2012.

The figure marks a 29.1% increase from the same period last year.

ADDF said the strong results were helped by a record-breaking second quarter and surpassed the recently announced 22.8% passenger traffic increases recorded at Abu Dhabi International Airport in the first six months of 2012.

Consumer demand is being boosted by the launch of exclusive products in the destination, particularly in the perfume and cosmetics category.

Mohammed Al Bulooki, Abu Dhabi Airports Company's chief commercial officer, said one of the group's main objectives is to continually invest in passenger amenities, customer service and an innovative retail offering.

He added: 'ADDF continues to focus on providing value for money across its business, as well as a comprehensive product range to meet all customers' expectations.'

Travellers can catch flights to Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways.
