Zagreb visitors urged to explore local culture

One of the highlights of visiting Zagreb is seeking out some of the cultural experiences on offer in the city, according to a local expert.

Damjan Beusan, a freelance tour guide for the Croatian National Tourist Board, compared the destination to Dublin and described it as a 'pocket-sized capital'.

He said the city offers plenty of restaurants and coffee bars, a laid-back atmosphere and activities that are affordable, particularly for visitors from the UK.

'You can actually find everything [in Zagreb] - a lot of art, theatres, exhibitions, museums and a lot of festivals, especially in May, June and July,' Mr Beusan commented.

The tour guide also pointed out that the city can be fairly quiet during the months of July and August, when many local people visit coastal destinations such as Dubrovnik and Split to enjoy the hot weather and check out the various cultural events and activities taking place over the summer.
