Terracotta warriors set to leave New York
8 Aug 2012

Travellers staying in hotels in New York this month will be the last visitors to see the exhibition Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China's First Emperor.

After attracting an unprecedented number of viewers to the Discovery Times Square venue, the display will end on 26 August and the exhibits will return to their home country.

People setting off on last-minute breaks in New York over the coming weeks can head to the show to see hundreds of artefacts dating back to 221 BCE.

The star attraction is a collection of nine authentic warrior figures standing at a height of more than six feet and weighing more than 270kg each.

Qin Shihuangdi, China's first emperor, ordered that the clay soldiers be built to protect him in the afterlife.

People visiting New York later this year can head to Discovery Times Square to see Spy, an exhibition exploring the mysterious world of espionage that will continue throughout the autumn.
