Barcelona 'perhaps the perfect European city break'
10 Aug 2012
Barcelona has been described as possibly the 'perfect' European city break destination by travel expert Simon Calder.
Mr Calder, senior travel editor for the Independent and writer for publications such as Conde Nast Traveller and British Airways' inflight magazine High Life, said one of the things that makes the Spanish hotspot so appealing is its diversity.
Visitors can enjoy culture at attractions such as the Picasso Museum, see the famous architecture of Antoni Gaudi, sample local food and drink and relax at the beach - something very few major European cities can offer.
'From the point of view of many, if you can't find it in Barcelona you're probably better off without it,' said Mr Calder.
The travel expert also commented on some of the sights and experiences on offer in other parts of northern Spain, such as the scenic coastline and the mountains of the Pyrenees and Asturias.
