20 Aug 2012
Florida is on course to set new records in terms of visitor numbers this year, the state's tourism marketing organisation has announced.
New figures indicate that the region welcomed 22.1m guests from April to June 2012, 1.3% more than in the same period last year.
There was a 10% rise in overseas visitors, with some 2.4m people travelling to Florida from outside the United States during the second quarter.
Employment directly related to travel also grew by 1.1%, meaning the sector now provides just over 1.04m jobs in the state.
Governor Rick Scott said it was encouraging to see ongoing growth in Florida's top industry.
'As a leading driver of our rebounding economy, Visit Florida and the entire Florida tourism industry are poised to make the Sunshine State the number one travel destination in the world,' he added.
Last year, this part of America welcomed more than 87m tourists.
People interested in visiting the region in future can catch flights to Miami, Orlando, Tampa and other cities.
