Taiwan hotels generating more revenue

Taiwan hotels proved a valuable source of income for the destination in the first half of the year, generating revenue of over NT$25.7bn (£544.9m).

Announcing the figures, the island's tourism authority said they reflected strong performance in the travel sector.

Hotel revenue during the first six months of 2012 was up over 6% from the same period last year and was driven by 25% year-on-year growth in arrivals from overseas, which escalated to 3.58m, Focus Taiwan reported.

China and Japan were the main source markets for the destination, with more than 1m arrivals recorded from both countries in the first half of the year.

The average price of a hotel room during the period was NT$3,416 per night and the most profitable property was the Regent Taipei, which posted revenues of NT$1.49bn.

International travellers planning a visit to Taiwan can explore the busy capital Taipei and also take in natural spectacles such as the Taroko gorge near Hualien.
