Spain visitors urged to explore the north

Travellers considering a trip to Spain have been encouraged to forego the tourist hotspots of the south and see what northern parts of the country have to offer.

Enrique Ruiz de Lera, director of the Spanish Tourist Office in London, pointed out that the north is home to the 'vibrant, cosmopolitan' city of Barcelona.

He encouraged visitors to experience the destination's 'cool vibe' and inspiring architecture, and also pointed out that it offers the opportunity to relax on the beach.

Travellers interested in venturing out of northern Spain's big cities can explore some of its pastoral areas to take in the scenery or embark on some outdoor adventures.

'Rural and rustic, the beautiful countryside offers visitors excellent walking, hiking, cycling and outstanding coastlines for swimming or long lazy recovery lunches,' said Mr De Lera.

Food lovers travelling to this part of Europe can sample the cuisine on offer in San Sebastian, which is known for its ciders, seafood and local 'pintxos'.
