People planning a trip to Ireland in the near future have been encouraged to visit some of the locations featured in recent films and television shows such as Game of Thrones.

The hugely popular fantasy series was filmed in Northern Ireland, using sites such as Shane's Castle near Randalstown in County Antrim, which appeared in the pilot and provided the setting for the tournament scene.

Set to arrive on television screens this September is Moone Boy, a new Sky One comedy starring Chris O'Dowd, Steve Coogan and Johnny Vegas.

The part-autobiographical programme explores the theme of growing up in Ireland at the end of the 1980s and was filmed in O'Dowd's hometown of Boyle, where visitors can eat and drink in local pubs and restaurants after taking walks in the surrounding countryside.

Holidaymakers visiting Northern Ireland can also see Crom Castle and the surrounding estate in County Fermanagh, which provided the filming location for Blandings, a six-part series coming to BBC One this autumn.

Jennifer Saunders and Timothy Spall star in the comedy, which follows a dysfunctional aristocratic family living at Blandings Castle.
