Travellers who have always wanted to visit Cuba will soon be able to do so with tall-ship cruise operator Star Clippers.

The company has announced that it will sail to the Caribbean island nation for the first time in 2014, providing itineraries taking in everything from beaches and anchorages to colonial towns and villages.

Options will include a 14-night sailing from Costa Rica to Cuba via the Panama Canal, with calls at Drake Bay and Golfito in Costa Rica, San Andres in Colombia, Little Cayman and Casilda in Cuba.

Travellers will also be able to choose from seven-night voyages to Cuba and the Cayman Islands departing on 16 and 23 February and 2, 9 and 16 March 2014.

Sailings will be operated by the 170-passenger Star Flyer, which will divide the 2013-14 winter season between Costa Rica and the Caribbean.

Star Clippers president Michael Krafft said Cuba is an 'exciting new destination' for the company's first-time guests as well as repeat passengers.

'As well as offering spectacular history, culture and architecture, the island's coast is ideal for sailing, with many beautiful anchorages and uninhabited beaches and cays,' he added.
