EasyJet to offer allocated seating from November
7 Sep 2012
EasyJet has announced that allocated seating will be introduced on all flights across its network from November 2012, as part of its aim to make travel 'easy and affordable'.
The system has been on trial since April this year, during which time more than 800,000 passengers have flown on 6,000 test services.
Surveys of these customers found that more than two-thirds (70%) think allocated seating is preferable to the current system, owing to the easier boarding experience, and over 60% would be more likely to travel with easyJet again as a result.
Previous research revealed that the boarding process whereby people choose their own seats can be a source of stress and in some cases could encourage travellers to use a different airline in future.
Carolyn McCall, chief executive of easyJet, said the allocation system provides the option for customers with particular preferences to select their own seat, although most passengers on the trial flights were simply assigned spots when they checked in.
She added: 'Some passengers chose particular seats, with bestselling seats usually those near the front, for those who wish to get off the aircraft quickly at their destinations, and exit row seats with their extra legroom.'
