21 Sep 2012

Monarch Airlines has announced that it recorded 'exceptionally strong' passenger numbers in August.

More than 748,000 people caught flights to the airline's destinations across Europe and the Mediterranean, marking 19% growth on the same month last year.

Capacity on Monarch's routes climbed 16.5 per cent year on year, while load factors - the rate at which the carrier fills its planes - increased by 1.7 percentage points.

Commenting on the figures, the company's managing director Kevin George said: 'Achieving a load factor of 94.5%, well above the industry norm, is an excellent result for the airline.'

Monarch operates flights to Malaga, Venice, Dubrovnik, Rhodes, Munich and other popular destinations from UK airports including London Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.

The carrier has announced a number of expansions to its route network this year, including flights to Gibraltar due to begin from Birmingham in summer 2013 and services to Grenoble, Friedrichshafen, Munich and Innsbruck for the winter 2012-13 season.
