Abta highlights top destinations for over-70s

Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Egypt are the top five holiday destinations for people aged 70 and over, according to Abta - The Travel Association.
Sean Tipton, the industry group's media relations manager, pointed out that the most popular locations among consumers in this age group are always likely to be short-haul.
A sense of familiarity is one of the appealing factors of countries such as these, according to the Abta spokesman, as well as the potential to save money on long stays.
Mr Tipton pointed out that it is not uncommon for older British people to spend six to eight weeks in hotels in Spain, for instance.
'It actually works out cheaper in many ways than staying at home because you don't have any fuel bills for starters,' he said. 'It can work out quite cheap.'
Italy offers popular activities for over-70s such as coach tours in the lake district in the north of the country.
