Croatia's national tourist board has said UK travellers are 'flocking' to the country following the release of figures showing a substantial increase in visitor numbers in the first nine months of the year.

More than 299,000 Britons took trips to Croatia between January and September 2012, 22% more than in the same period last year.

The tourism agency said the statistics prove the destination 'continues to be a favourite with holidaymakers'.

One of Croatia's most popular holiday locations, Dubrovnik, is set to enjoy a further boost in profile among television viewers following the return of award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones to the city this month.

The third season of the show will feature scenes filmed in several locations around the tourist hotspot, including the Trsteno arboretum, the oldest attraction of its kind in the Dalmatia region.

Zagreb, meanwhile, has boosted its accommodation offering with the opening of the capital's first ever bed and breakfast, Studio Kairos.
