Travellers visiting Rio de Janeiro during a trip to Brazil should not miss the opportunity to explore the Copacabana neighbourhood, according to Embratur, the national tourist board.

Copacabana is one of the country's most famous and popular tourist areas, known for its 4km beach and party atmosphere.

Marcelo Pedroso, director of international markets at Embratur, pointed out that visitors will also find plenty of amenities and attractions in this part of Rio.

'The Copacabana area is known for its hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs dotted along the promenade,' he said.

'Copacabana beach has also been officially named as a 2014 Fifa World Cup Fan Fest [site].'

Mr Pedroso singled out Rio de Janeiro as one of the most popular destinations in Brazil for leisure travel, along with Santa Catarina, Parana, Sao Paulo and Bahia.

Experiences on offer in these locations include seeing the beaches of Trancoso, a former fishing village in Bahia, and visiting Sao Paulo's Latin American Memorial and Museum of Art.
