There was an 8% increase in the number of people who visited the famous Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland, last year.

In total, 873,988 people visited the famous rock faces; which was almost 65,000 more than in 2011.

The 200m-high cliffs, which are one of the Emerald Isle's top attractions, provide a spectacular view across the Atlantic Ocean to the Aran Islands and give avid birdwatchers the chance to see nesting seabirds.

Those wishing to experience what the cliffs have to offer can catch one of the cheap flights to Galway or Dublin.

"Part of that increase at the Cliffs of Moher is the emergence of the day trip from Galway and Dublin, which is now firmly part of the cliffs business," president of the Irish Hotel Federation, Michael Vaughan, told the Clare Champion.

"We need to work hard at that to attract more of these Cliffs of Moher visitors to stay and spend here."
