Swap turkey for jerk, says Jamaican tourist board

Swap turkey for jerk, says Jamaican tourist board
10 Jan 2013

Britons sick of the taste of turkey leftovers are being encouraged to swap the festive bird for a bit of jerk chicken instead.

The spicy snack is a favourite in Jamaica, where the local tourist board is hoping to lure Britons keen for some fresh flavours and winter sun.

Temperatures at this time of year can hit 30 degrees on the island, providing a much-needed dose of warmth for those living under cold, grey skies in the UK.

And with 176 tourist attractions, more than any other Caribbean island, there is plenty to do besides lazing around on one of Jamaica's gorgeous sandy beaches. These include the historical Devon House mansion in Kingston, the cascading Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios and the famous Rick's Cafe in Negril, which is the ideal spot to watch the beautiful sunsets.

Flights to the capital Kingston are under £700 return from London.
