Goa continues to attract large numbers of foreign and domestic tourists, thanks in no small part to its pristine beaches, vibrant nightlife and warm hospitality.

According to the latest figures from the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, some 2.8m foreign tourists paid a visit to India's smallest state over the final nine months of 2012.

The vast majority of these headed for its world-famous beaches, with many opting to stay by the ocean and take in the local hospitality, for instance by dining out or diving into the local nightlife, the region's tourism minister Dilip Parulekar noted.

At the same time, the statistics also showed that Goa remained a popular draw with Indian tourists, with around 1.8m heading there on their holidays.

Meanwhile, according to the local news agency Zee News, plans to develop the Selaulim Dam reservoir into a water sports attraction could be realised by the end of the year, potentially giving thrill-seeking tourists yet another reason to pay a visit.
