Carnival time in France

Carnival time in France
6 Feb 2013

Carnival season marks the arrival of spring in France, with colourful events taking place across the country in February, March and April.

Already underway and continuing until 17 March is the Limoux Carnival, France's longest, which sees celebrations taking place every weekend. Also taking place this coming weekend between 8-12 February is the Granville Carnival, with 40 floats set to parade through the seaside city.

Those staying at cheap hotels in Paris next month will be able to enjoy the carnival taking place there on 10 March, which is based around a 'toy world' theme. And between 2 and 10 March, the historic Albi Carnival will crown the Carnival Queen.

Later, the island of Corsica will celebrate the Sartene Carnival from 25 April to 7 May.

Other regions and towns partying this spring include Nord-Pas-De-Calais, Ballieul, Cassel, Douai and Dunkirk, where the signature event is the 'jet de harengs' (herring flinging).
