Tourists heading to one of Thailand's best-loved beaches are being given the chance to be pampered at a newly-opened 'sand spa'.

Located on Bo Nok Beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, the spa is geared towards providing relaxing and unforgettable treatments for holidaying couples.

As well as getting almost entirely covered in moist sand, a session also includes a liberal splashing of seawater, a massage and, to finish up, a dip in the warm, clear sea.

Speaking to the Bangkok Post, the director of the local Tourism Authority of Thailand office, Phasitta Inthaphan, explained that, given the quality and exact mineral composition of the sand on the beach changes with time, no two treatments are likely to be the same.

However, all visitors are said to benefit from a range of different minerals found in the region's sand, which are said to promote healthy skin and a general sense of wellbeing.

As well as its beaches, Prachuap Khiri Khan is also famous for being home to the Monkey Temple at Wat Thammikaram, where tourists can watch locals treat primates to fruit treats.
