Cornwall museum receives funding boost
15 Feb 2013

The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum in Cornwall has been given a boost, after receiving £150,000.

In the second round of Coastal Communities Funding, the museum was selected along with 19 other seaside projects to get a share of the pot.

Despite its small size, the village of Porthcurno located at the south-western tip of Cornwall has an international reputation thanks to its role in the undersea cable communications projects of the 19th century - a history that is celebrated by the museum.

'For 140 years Porthcurno was an important hub of global communications and known internationally,' explained the museum's development project manager>>>[,]<<< Henrietta Boex.

A gold winner in the 2012 Cornwall Tourism Awards 'Small Visitor Attraction of the Year' category, the museum provides an informative and fun day out for the whole family.

Visitors will learn about the history of the telegraph and its role in the British Empire, as well as how this technology acted as the forerunner for modern communications.
