More Brits visiting Austria

The number of British visitors to Austria has increased, according to the latest figures from the tourist board.

Data shows that there has been a 10% spike in the number of people from the UK staying in hotels in Austria, the Austrian Times reports.

However, the biggest rate of growth was seen among French tourists (+22%), while there was also an increase in visitors from Japan (+10%), Russia (+9%) and Switzerland (+3%).

These figures helped to partially offset a decrease in hotel guests from Romania (-7%), the USA (-5%) and Germany (-4%), as well as a 4% dip in domestic travellers, which saw the total number of overnight stays fall by 0.5%.

Top attractions in the country include the spectacular architecture found in the capital Vienna and the world-class skiing offered by the resorts of St Anton and Kitzbühel, where World Cup events are held on the slopes of the Hahnenkamm.
