British Airways new Tenerife service already a hit

British Airways' new London Gatwick to Tenerife service is already proving popular with holidaymakers ahead of its launch on 29 March.

The inaugural flight of the five-day-a-week route is fully booked for both economy and business class. BA is the first airline to offer business class seats on flights to and from the Canary Island.

'This new service will satisfy the demands of the island's tourism sector, particularly our four and five-star hotels, as it will appeal to more high-end and business British visitors,' commented Tenerife's tourism minister, Carlos Alonso.

'The fact that the inaugural flight is already sold out weeks before departure is a very positive sign.'

Passengers will be able to catch the new service, which takes around four hours, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The UK is Tenerife's largest overseas market, with 1.6m Brits making the journey south over the Atlantic each year.
