Opera fans will be flocking to the Italian city of Verona this summer for the annual Opera Festival.

Between 14 June and 8 September, visitors to the city will be able to enjoy some of the 58 performances taking place under the artistic direction of the internationally famous Spanish tenor Placido Domingo.

The 91st edition of the festival is being dedicated to the great Italian composer Guiseppe Verdi, who was born 200 years ago in the province of Parma. To celebrate his life, some of his best-known works will be performed during the event.

This year also happens to be the bicentennial of the German composer Richard Wagner's birth, and on 15 August a gala will be dedicated to both him and Verdi.

As well as its opera, Verona is famous for being the home of the Montagues and Capulets, and from 31 August, 'Romeo et Juliette' by Charles Gounod will hit the stage.
