24 Apr 2013

Lovers of classical music might like to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of opera at a special Italian festival this summer.

The Puccini Opera Festival pays tribute to two other famous composers in addition to its title one: Giuseppe Verdi, whose bicentenary of his birth is this year, and Pietro Mascagni, who was born 150 years ago.

Hosted on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, the festival will see the staging of Puccini's best-known works - Tosca, Turandot and Tabarro.

Opening on July 12 and running through to August 24, the festival will also oversee the production of the musical diptych Tabarro and Cavalleria Rusticana.

Daniel Oren will be conducting the orchestra and chorus of the festival before passing the baton to Francesco Ivan Ciampa for the July 20 performance.

In the lead role for Turandot will be Giovanna Casolla, who has sung the part of the wicked princess all over the world.ADNFCR-408-ID-801576069-ADNFCR
