Take part in the longest canoe marathon

The Yukon River Quest is the longest canoe and kayak race in the world and it is held each year between Whitehorse and Dawson City in Canada.

Those taking on the challenge between June 26 and 30 will paddle a 444-mile stretch of the Yukon River as a team.

A nickname for the event is 'Race to the Midnight Sun' as crews continue their journey day and night while the sun never sets at this time of the year in Yukon Territory.

Organisers insist on two mandatory ten-hour rest stops in the course of the race, but other than that it is a 24-hour commitment.

At present there are 66 teams registered to take part in this year's race with participants coming from nine countries: Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, USA, Poland, Australia, Germany, Austria and New Zealand.

The event takes place in one of the most awe-inspiring settings on the planet, as the Yukon in the northeast corner of Canada is 80 per cent pristine wilderness.ADNFCR-408-ID-801578880-ADNFCR
