The G8 Summit of world leaders taking place in Northern Ireland next week will help encourage more people to catch flights to Belfast, a tourism boss has said.

Tourism Ireland chief executive Niall Gibbons says the event, which has global reach, presents 'an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland'.

To help Northern Ireland capitalise,  the agency has invited a number of travel writers to tour around the country visiting some its principal attractions during the summit, including the Giant's Causeway, Londonderry - the UK's City of Culture - and the Titanic attraction in Belfast.

'The international media profile accompanying the G8 is enormous and the ensuing publicity will raise the profile of Northern Ireland to help us achieve our goal of boosting visitor numbers,' commented Mr Gibbons.

'G8' refers to the number of countries meeting at the event, representing the world's wealthiest nations including the UK, the USA and Japan. ADNFCR-408-ID-801599178-ADNFCR
