Premier League break no summer holiday for Saints

Premier League break no summer holiday for Saints
20 Jun 2013

After the end of a tough Premier League campaign, Southampton's players were probably looking forward to a holiday.

However, new coach Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he has been drilling the team hard in order to improve on their 14th place finish last term.

'It's a very important time - it's no holiday,' he told Saints Player. '[We] work all day, because - not only for us, but for all of the team - this time is very important for the future of the club and for the next season.'

The Argentine's stance echoes that taken by Paolo Di Canio, who oversees fellow top flight strugglers Sunderland.

He initially threatened to cap the amount of time off over the summer his side could take in a bid to encourage them to improve on their disappointing 2012/2013 campaign, but later backed down after criticism from the Professional Footballers' Association.ADNFCR-408-ID-801601706-ADNFCR
