In this digital age, one in five holidaymakers now book their holidays using a mobile phone, according to the latest research.

In a new report, 'Performance Marketing: Travellers & Purchase Paths', marketing firm Tradedoubler says that this figure rises to 28% amongst mobile-savvy 25 to 34 year olds.

Travel is now Europe's largest online business sector, with €98.1bn spent by tech-minded consumers. Currently, 41% of all consumer travel spend is online - a figure that Tradedoubler expects to rise to 44% by 2014.

In past two years, 62% of holidaymakers chose to put their own itinerary together - outnumbering those who opted for package holidays (41%) and all-inclusive trips (20%).

'Holidaymakers have unprecedented levels of information and offers at their fingertips, including on their smartphones and tablets, and it's driving an amazing shift in how they research and book holidays,' commented Dan Cohen, regional director at Tradedoubler. ADNFCR-408-ID-801621551-ADNFCR
