If you're booking flights abroad for you and your better half it might be wise to check the baggage allowance, after a new survey revealed some women pack up to 150 items of clothing for their holidays.

The average female traveller packs 57 pieces of clothing and shoes, yet as many as two-thirds of these remain unworn.

When the 79% of women surveyed who said they over-packed for their holidays were questioned, the majority explained they did so 'just in case'. However, preparing for every scenario can prove costly, with 29% of women getting caught out by excess baggage charges.

'A woman's worst nightmare is being on holiday and wanting to wear something they've left behind,' commented Anne Deegan, services manager at Debenhams, which carried out the research.
