Stansted baggage workers could strike

Stansted baggage workers could strike
13 Aug 2013

Passengers who have booked flights from Stansted at the end of this month should be prepared to face disruption, with baggage workers threatening to launch strike action.

The staff responsible for scanning luggage at the London airport are planning to stop working at 3.30am and 3.30pm for a two-and-a-half hour period on four days from 23 August onwards.

A spokesman for airport contractor Mitie, which employs the workers, said it was in discussion with their union, GMB, to avert the crisis.

'We hope that we will be able to reach an agreement with the union, but if we can't, full contingency plans will be put into place to ensure any disruption to passengers is kept to a minimum,' a spokesman commented.

Stansted in Essex is the third busiest airport in London, with around 17.5m passengers passing through its doors each year. Its most popular foreign destination is Dublin in Ireland.ADNFCR-408-ID-801624460-ADNFCR
