Split drawing the crowds

Split drawing the crowds
23 Aug 2013

The number of people visiting the city of Split is up 20% this year, according to official figures.

In total, 170,000 people flocked to the Croatian city in the first seven months of 2013, with the number of overnight hotel bookings also rising by 20% to 470,000, Dalje.com reports.

June was a particularly good month for the city, with visitor numbers up 23% to 67,000 and overnight stays totalling 220,000.

'This reflects an upbeat trend, above expectations. We planned for 10%, having in mind the city's accommodation capacity,' the director of the local tourist bureau, Vedran Matosic, told Hina on Monday (19 August).

Top attractions in Split, which is situated on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, include the Roman ruins of the Diocletian's Palace, the bizarre but popular Froggyland and the Ivan Mestrovic art gallery. The city's old town is also a lovely place to explore. ADNFCR-408-ID-801628918-ADNFCR
